The Suilven from Highland Stoneware in Lochinver | |
Achmelvich | |
Northward from Ullapool, one leaves behind the tourists places and enters Assynt,
a place of rough and wild beauty, a land of heavenly beaches, wild cliffs and so
strangely formed mountains. In fact Assynt is the Highlands as dreamed.
Clachtoll | |

The heart of the area is Lochinver, a nice fishing port with shops and petrol. Do
not miss the Highland Stoneware potery. The secondary road B869 from Lochinver to Kylesku
is probably one of the most beautiful and fantastic road we saw. It is a single track
road which can be quite tricky to drive on when one must go on reverse in a 25 %
slope to find the nearest passing place. Trailers forbidden...
Old man of Stoer | |
Clashnessie | |
Leaving Lochinver, the Achmelvich road is the first to be crossed. This road is really
narrow and nonetheless very crowded which can seriously lengthen the trip. At the end
a beautiful white sand beach, an enjoyable swim, some boats on the beach and a camping.
Then the road reaches Clachtoll and its peculiar rock. It is the road to the point of
Stoer. The car park is near the lighthouse and there is a walk from there to the point
and the Old man of Stoer.
Drumbeg | |
Further along the road lie Drumbeg and Nedd. At Kylesku, the road reaches the main road
toward Scourie, Kinlochbervie and Sandwood bay.
