Ardnamurchan peninsula is the western point of mainland. The road to Ardnamurchan main settlements
goes through a quiet and wooded countryside. Kilchoan is the biggest settlement on the peninsula. It
harbors a petrol station which is quite valuable in this neighbourhood. There is not much of a choice
for dinner. The only possibilities are the restaurants of the hotels. Kilchoan is a ferry station to
Tobermory on Mull. In fact the ferry station is composed of a small hut and a jetty. No more than six
cars can get on the ferry at the same time. In order to get out on forward at Tobermory one has to get
on board on reverse which can be very impressive if one is not used to it.

On a late afternoon we could only explore a small fraction of the peninsula. We went on the west coast.
First stop: Ardnamurchan point lighthouse. There is not much people on the road, we spotted an otter along
the track before we got to the small walls typical of the lighthouse. At the end of the road, the track
is too narrow and two cars cannot possibly cross anywhere so there is a traffic light in the middle of
nowhere to be sure not to cross anybody on this desolated road. Around the lighthouse, the views are
magnificents. In the rear one can see the Skye's or Rum's Cuillins with a bit of sunshine. To end a tour, nothing
beats a white sand beach. By chance, Sanna bay is not far. Sanna is no more than a few houses. The beach
contains many dunes and rocks bathing in the sea with pools. Another unforgetable beach. We ended our day
at the restaurant of Sonachan hotel. The restaurant is not too expensive but today menu is the most sensible
choice. The room is dark and gloomy, but there was nowhere else to eat.
